Obituary of Valeria Elizabeth Platz

Valeria was born November 19. 1923 in Luxemburg, IA, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Gaul) Greiner. She married Gilbert J. Platz on April 7, 1942 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg, Iowa. She worked as a cook for the school lunch program at St. Francis Xavier for many years. She loved college basketball and the NCAA finals, gardening, cooking and baking, crocheting and fishing. She especially loved spending time with her family. She is survived by 4 sons: Robert (Rosie) and Dan (June), both of Dyersville, Charlie (friend Carol Langel) of Delhi and Dale (Sue) of Omaha, NE; 5 daughters: Darlene Hoffman of Dyersville, Carol (Chuck) Wessels of Dubuque, Sandy (Dwight) Schoening of Glenwood, Iowa, Jane (Bill) Sullivan of Oakdale, Minn. And Susan (Brad) Helle of Cedar Rapids; 18 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; a sister, Alma Willenborg of Dyersville , sisters-in-law Jean Greiner of Cedar Rapids, Lillian Greiner of Indepencence, Iowa, and Norma Platz Deppe, formerly of Dyersville. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers Kenneth and Elmer Greiner, brothers-in-law, Elmer Schlichte, Tony Willenborg and Herb Platz, and brothers-in-law and their wives LaVerne and Jeannie Platz and Art and Anna Mae Breitbach A memorial fund has been established and memorials are preferred. Valeria died Friday, April 4, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Dyersville after a brief illness.
