Glen W. Billmeyer, 79, of Newton, IA formerly of Dyersville died on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines with his family by his side. The son of Jake and Leona (Tegeler) Billmeyer, he was born on June 11, 1928 in Dyersville, Iowa. Glen graduated from Xavier High School in Dyersville and attended Loras College. Glen retired from Peoples Natural Gas Company after 28 years of service. He served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Glen was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, the Newton Elks Lodge, and Westwood Golf Club. Glen loved spending time with his family, especially attending all of his grandchildren's events. He loved to golf and looked forward to his annual trips to Bella Vista, Arkansas. Glen is survived by his daughter, Gwen Conrey of West Des Moines; his son, Sam (Louise) Billmeyer of Ankeny; three grandchildren, Jeff (Beth) Conrey, Kristi (Mike) Hicks, and Jake Billmeyer; his four great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Lauren Conrey, and Anna and Jackson Hicks. He is also survived by his good friend, Mel Wilson. Glen was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Joan and Jane. The family will greet friends from 5-8:30 p.m., Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1115 S. 8th Ave. E. in Newton, with a public Vigil service at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. Burial will be at the St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville with military rites accorded by American Legion Post 137. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the National Elks Foundation or to the Newton Junior Golf. Memorials may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton or at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville.
