Jack is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Rowland of Fort Worth, Texas and Katherine (Jeff) Grimes of Coralville, Iowa and a son, John (Peg McElroy) Fraser of Iowa City, Iowa; Grandsons Michael (Juliana) Rowland and Larry and Isaac Grimes; a brother, George Howden Fraser of Portland, Oregon; two brothers-in-law Robert (Lee) Meyer of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Alex (Joanne) Meyer of Jacksonville, Florida. John Howden Fraser, Jr. was born in Nevada, Iowa, the son of John Howden Fraser, MD and Katherine Ethel George on May 25, 1920. Jack married Janet Elizabeth Meyer on September 7, 1942 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and then served in the US Army during WWII from December of 1942 to September of 1945 in the European Theater. When he returned he continued his education at the University of Iowa and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Pre-Med. Jack and Janet began their family and farmed near Monticello in Linn County and eventually moved to the George family homestead East of town. Jack was a very community minded person, actively involved in Democratic politics, his love of flying and having his private pilot's license allowed him to contribute the the aviation community of Monticello. He demonstrated his love of learning by actively supporting the Monticello School District and the Monticello Schools Foundation, and he helped establish and promote Camp Courageous of Iowa over the years. In addition to his love of the land and farming he tinkered with a lot of projects, most notably working as an independent heating and cooling contractor. Jack will be fondly remembered for the sparkle in his eye and his light-hearted and subtle wit and sense of humor.
