Lucille is survived by 2 sons: Leon (Catherine) Owen of Monticello, Iowa and Keith (Johnnie) Owen of Davenport, Iowa; 2 grandchildren: Angela (Brian) Kearney of Monticello, Iowa and Brandon Owen of Davenport, Iowa; 1 great-granddaughter, Brianna Kearney of Monticello, Iowa and 1 brother-in-law, David Owen of Harrison, Arkansas. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Jessie Poyner, and brothers: Dale, Jim and Harold Poyner; brothers-in-law: Owen and Robert Owen, and sisters-in-law: Eleanor Patrick and Mabel Pool. Lucille was born June 21, 1930, in Yoder, Colo. the daughter of Robert and Clara (Knox) Poyner. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Colorado. Lucille and James "Jim" Owen were married on Feb. 7, 1953, in Raton, New Mexico. They made their home in Peyton, Colo. until moving to Monticello in 1970. Lucille worked at Behrends Family Store, Schultz Variety Store, Family Beverage Center, the John McDonald Hospital and Country Gardens Greenhouse. She was a loving person, visiting with everyone she came into contact with. Lucille also loved tending to her plants and floral gardens. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Even after her diagnosis, she never gave up, fighting it every step of the way. The staff at Oncology Associates in Cedar Rapids became her second family not only providing comfort and care to her, but to her family as well. C. Lucille Owen, 78, of Monticello, Iowa died peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, surrounded by her loving family after a nearly eight year battle with cancer. Friends may call from 2 - 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2008. Rev. Ed Moreano will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello, Iowa.
