Obituary of Rose M. Menke

Survivors include 2 sons: David (Sherry) Menke of Cascade, Dale (Sharon) Menke of New Vienna, 2 daughters: Linda (Larry) Lee of Elkader, Joyce (Jeff) Tobin of Worthington, 5 grandsons, Douglas (Jennifer) Lee , Dean Lee, Terry Menke, Matt Tobin, Tyler Menke, 5 granddaughters: Katie Menke, Kristi Tobin, Heidi Tobin, Brittany Menke, and Tonya Menke, 1 step grandson, Shane Jaeger, 2 great grandsons: Anthony and Nicholaus Lee, her brother, Albert (Blanche) Schulte of New Vienna and a sister, Marie Drees of West Springfield, MA, brother and sister-in-law: Vic (Rose Mary) Menke and Clara (Eldon) Steffensmeier both of Dyersville and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Anton Menke on November 18, 1995, an infant daughter, Mary Lou on January 15, 1957, four brothers: Joe, Lawrence, Alphonse, Elmer, 3 sisters: Catherine Lux, Alvina Beringer and Leona Schulte. Rose was born with the great flood of New Vienna on Flag Day on June 14, 1925 in New Vienna, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard and Barbara (Steffen) Schulte. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Church, New Vienna, Iowa where she was a lifetime member. Rose received her education in the St. Boniface School. On January 13, 1948 she married Anton Menke at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna. Together they farmed north of New Vienna until their retirement in 1989 when they moved to New Vienna. Rose enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking for her family and friends, embroidery, and the Cubs. She enjoyed participating in all the activities at Oak Crest Manor, where she has been a resident for the last 6 years. Rose is a member of the St. Boniface Altar & Rosary Society, former member of the New Vienna Historical Society and the New Vienna Garden Club. She was a role model to everyone as she accepted the cross she was given and never complained. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2008, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 3 p.m. Special thanks to the staff at Oak Crest Manor for the excellent care and friendship given to Mom.
