Obituary of Mary Alice Baker

Mary Alice Baker, 91, of Dyersville, Iowa died Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood, Iowa. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where an Order of the Eastern Star Service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Friends may continue to call after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the Colesburg United Methodist Church where a funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Burial at St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville, Iowa. Rev. Allen Craft will officiate. Mary Alice was born October 9, 1920, in Honey Creek, IN, the daughter of Joseph and Edith (Haynes) Mauck. She graduated from Sulphur Springs (IN) High School with the Class of 1939, and married James W. Baker on April 19, 1942, in Middleton, IN. Mary Alice worked for the Public Service Company in New Castle, IN as a PPX Operator and ran the telephone office switchboard in Sulphur Springs. She also worked for Kraft Foods and was a bookkeeper for Glasco, the Blue Flame Gas Co., Jill's Stitchery and Ron Theisen Transport. She was a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the White Shrine, and the Garden Club of Middletown. She enjoyed all kinds of needlework, including corchet, knitting, embroidery, cross stitch and needlepoint. She also enjoyed all sorts of card games especially Hand & Foot and Double Deck Old Sol with partners. Survivors include 2 daughters: Jennifer Anne Smith of Mesa, AZ, and Jonnetta Kay (Ron) Theisen of Dyersville, 2 grandchildren: Tym (Vickie) Theisen of Dyersville and Tiffinni (Matt) Deutmeyer of Dyersville, 4 great grandchildren: Steven & David Theisen, Morgan & Emily Deutmeyer; 1 sister, Joyce Hoffman of Des Moines, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James, and 2 sisters: Velma L. Brandt and Joan Henderson. Memorials are preferred.
