Ruth was born on May 2, 1920, in Bellevue, Iowa, the daughter of George and Rose (Michel) Feltes. She graduated from the Immaculate Conception Academy in Dubuque in the class of 1937. On May 30, 1949, she married Louis P. Hayes at Sacred Heart Church, Dubuque, Iowa. During their marriage, Ruth and Louis traveled extensively, driving to all of the 48 continental states. Together they owned and operated the Holy Cross Locker until retirement in 1983. She continued to be active in the family business with her son, Bob. She was a wonderful cook and baker, especially known for her cinnamon rolls and roast beef. She was a very generous person who reached out to many people in their time of need. Ruth's family was the true focus of her life. She was very in tune with them and never lost her nurturing spirit, attending many of her children and grandchildren's events. Throughout her life, Ruth loved to read, especially later in life when she had more time. She was a member of the Holy Cross Parish, it's Rosary Society, the Catholic Order of Foresters Court 881, and the Immaculate Conception Alumni Association. Ruth received the honor of being the Holy Cross Citizen of the Year in 1995. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Osamah Khatib for his kindness, concern and wise counsel. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday, October 24, 2008, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross where a parish scripture service will be held at 3 p.m.
