Survivors include her children: Deborah (Carmen) Castillo of Moline, Ill., Steve (Deb) Ross of Farley, Iowa, Kevin (Rabecca Miller) Ross of Holy Cross, Iowa, Cathy (Barney) Rohrer of Colorado Springs, Colo., Peggy (Dean) Hendricks of Earlville, Iowa; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; 7 siblings: Lue Heying of Dubuque, Iowa, Mae McGuire of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Gerald "Tink" (Betty) Heiring of Marshfield, Wis., Elaine Williams of Tacoma, Wash., Darlene Rusch of Holy Cross, Iowa, Shirley Klein of Rickardsville, Iowa, Joyce (Mike) Salatino of Wauna, Wash.; 2 sisters-in-law: Jean Heiring of Prairie DuChein, Wis., Kay Ross of Holy Cross, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters: Sedele (Gib) Tegeler, Helen (Ted) Bakula, brother, Donald "Doc" Heiring; brothers-in-law: Wally Heying, Bill McGuire, Dave Williams, Lee Rusch, Gene Klein, and Gary Ross. Lois was born on December 6, 1931, in Farley, Iowa the seventh of eleven children born to Albert and Alvina (Vorwald) Heiring. Lois graduated from Holy Cross High School with the Class of 1949. She married Duane A. "Pete" Ross on November 26, 1949 in Holy Cross, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1990. Lois was a member of the Holy Cross Parish and its Rosary Society, living in Holy Cross for over 63 years. She was a Postal Employee from 1960 until retiring as Postmaster in 1990. She was a member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States and the League of Postmasters. She was also a social worker of the Office of Economic Opportunity from 1967 - 1982. Lois was an antique dealer and the owner Back Door Antiques in Holy Cross for over 17 years. She was an avid euchre player, reader and a published writer. She had a great interest in music and spent much of her leisure time leading both family and friends in sing-alongs on the piano. She also enjoyed spending time at her cabin on the Mississippi River. Friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2008, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross where a parish scripture service will be held at 4:30 p.m.
