Obituary of Dorothy D Laban

Dorothy was born on Oct. 8, 1922 in Farley, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Steger) Soppe. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in Farley with the Class of 1941. She married Anthony J. "Tony" Laban on May 8, 1945, in Farley, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Worthington area all of their lives. He preceded her in death on December 9, 2000. She enjoyed working in her yard and her gardens, keeping things very neat. She loved her cats and took care of them faithfully. Dorothy was a special lady and will be greatly missed by her daughter, grandchildren and all who knew her. She was a woman of courage who never gave up. Survivors include her daughter: Judy Gaul of Farley, IA, 2 grandchildren: Michelle Gaul of Gainesville, VA and Jason Gaul of Chicago, IL, 4 sisters-in-law: Vivian Althoff of Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, IA, Frances Kula of Marion, IA, Dorothy Schafer of Monticello, IA, and Helen Laban of Bernard, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband "Tony" and a son-in-law, Louis Gaul, her brother, Russell "LeRoy" Soppe, and 5 sisters: Lucille Recker, Bernice "Ginger" Schumacher, Lillian McCoy, Anita Gibbons and Virginia Soppe. Altar & Rosary Society rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a Parish Scripture Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday at the Kramer Funeral Home.
