Obituary of Mark Allen Steger

Survivors include his parents, Robert and Lillian Steger of Dyersville, 3 brothers: Keith (Judy) Steger of Colesburg, Ron (Karen) Steger of Bankston, and Jim (Gwen Link) Steger of Dyersville; 3 sisters: Lisa (Kevin) Goedken of Worthington, Linda (Jim) Hansel of Dyersville, Sarah (Frank) Cleveland of Marion, a brother-in-law, Mike Meyer of Dyersville and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lori Meyer and his grandparents, Leonard and Hilda Hermsen and Arnold and Gertrude Steger. Mark was born on May 7, 1968, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Robert and Lillian (Hermsen) Steger. At the age of ten he was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor that led to the beginning of a disability. He attended Beckman High School with the Class of 1986. Mark enjoyed fishing on the river with his dad, golfing, helping his parents on the farm, and being with his siblings and their children. In November of 1997, Mark began having strokes that led to increasing disability. Mark's courageous battle created a very strong bond within his family. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009 at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Phil Kruse will officiate.
