Obituary of Edward Henry Tillis

Surviving are Ed's wife, Corrine, 2 daughters: Catherine "Kate" Tillis and Myrna Tillis, both of Dyersville, a son, Martin (Camille) Tillis of Bettendorf, Iowa, 1 grandson, Drake Tillis of Ames, Iowa and 2 step-grandchildren, Kimberly Gilchrist and Zachary Asmussen, 2 sisters-in-law, Bernie Tillis of DeWitt, Iowa and LaVonne Tillis of Pearl City, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Francis and Jack Tillis, and a sister, Mary (Robert) Hinson. Ed was born October 7, 1922, in Sabula, Iowa the son of John and Hattie (Doyle) Tillis. He attended school in Sabula, graduating from Sabula High School in 1940. He began farming with his father in Clinton County near Charlotte, Iowa. He married Corrine Heiar on October 4, 1958, at Assumption Catholic Church in Charlotte, Iowa. Together they farmed near Charlotte on his home place for 30 years. They retired in 1988 when they moved to Petersburg. Some of his most pleasurable pastimes were weekend trips with his family,reading the paper, fishing with his son and watching M*A*S*H reruns. Edward H. Tillis, 86, of rural Dyersville, Iowa died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home after an extended illness. Friends may call from 3 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish/school rosary will be be recited at 4 p.m. Friends may also call after 7:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Donald Hertges will officiate.
