Survivors include his wife, Jeanette, his mother, Catherine Steffen of New Vienna, Iowa, 5 children: Brenda (Jeff) Koppes of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Christopher (Lynn) of Worthington, Iowa, Dale of Farley, Iowa, Michael of Dickeyville, Wis., and Kelly (Marty) Droessler of Kieler, Wis., 5 grandchildren: Anthony and Dominique Simon, Katelyn and Brooklyn Droessler and Rylee Jo Steffen, a brother, Merlin (Karen) Steffen of Peosta, Iowa, and a sister, JoAnn Potter of Holy Cross, Iowa, brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Vernon (Joan) Gudenkauf, Kathleen (Dick) Hogan, Lois (Omer) Fortman, Virginia (Phil) Kelchen, Jerome Hoeger, Janet (Robert) Pottebaum, and Dick (Sharon) Gudenkauf, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Arnold, and a sister-in-law, Mary Hoeger. Roger was born on December 5, 1945 in Luxemburg, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Catherine (Brunkan) Steffen. He married Jeanette Gudenkauf on June 24, 1967 in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ryan, Iowa. Roger was a self-employed farmer and truck driver who was also active in the community, serving on various church committees. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and enjoyed playing cards, collecting toy tractors, farming, and visiting with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. Friends may call from 2 - 8 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Peosta, where a parish scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. Friends may continue to call after 9 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2009, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Peosta.
