Mrs. Catherine E. "Katie" Flaherty 80, of North Buena Vista, Iowa died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at home in her daughter's residence, in the arms of her daughters. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross. Friends may continue to call after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the North Buena Vista Hall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Buena Vista, Iowa. Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Rev. Marvin Bries will officiate. Katie was born February 4, 1932, in St. Donatus, Iowa the daughter of Matt and Catherine (LeConte) Davis. She married Clare Flaherty in Dubuque, Iowa. They moved to North Buena Vista in 1975, where she became a member of the Immaculate Conception Rosary Society. She was a homemaker who loved to garden and cook the fruits of her labors. . The most important things in her life were her children and grandchildren. Surviving are her children: John (Carroll) Flaherty of St. Louis, MO, Jim Flaherty of Studio City, CA, Joan (Gene) Eglseder of Garnavillo, Jean (James) Gordon of North Buena Vista and Julie (Brad) Meek of Liberty, MO; her grandchildren: Laura (John) Glasgow, Jeffery Eglseder, Katie (friend J.P. Pope) Eglseder, Jason (Amie) Gordon, Matthew Gordon, Kimberly (friend, Matt Oneyear) Gordon and Ashley Meek; 7 great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 7 step-great grandchildren and 1 step-great-great grandchild; a brother-in-law, Clyde (Gloria) Flaherty of Las Vegas, NV, several nieces and nephews, and a very special friend, Rosie Boge of North Buena Vista. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Clare, on May 2, 1993; 2 brothers, Wesley Davis and Lawrence (Grace) Davis. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the nurses with Hospice of Dubuque for all of their loving care for Mother and our family.
