Obituary of Darrell Duane Lewis

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Judy; 3 children: Debbie (Chuck) Eilers of Scotch Grove, Iowa, Randy (Lisa) Lewis of Anamosa, Iowa, and Chris (Corri) Lewis of Tacoma, Wash.; grandchildren: Zachoriah, Tyler and Kylaena Lewis of Tacoma, Wash., Cameron and Connyr Lewis of Anamosa, Iowa, Taylor, Taryn and Tori Eilers of Scotch Grove, Iowa; special "grandchildren," Calli and Katie Cook of Anamosa; brother and sisters: Richard (Kathy) Lewis of Puyallup, Wash, Shirlaine VanAmberg of Mechanicsville, Audrey Kahl of Clarence, Iowa, Dee Corrigan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Diane (Leonard) Thompson of Mechanicsville, Iowa, a brother-in-law, Ellis "Corky" Corkery of Lisbon, Iowa, a sister-in-law, Linda Lewis of Gainseville, Florida, and a very large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Virgil; brothers: LeRoy, Claire and Joe Lewis; sisters: Valetta Lewis, Sharon Corkery and LaRue Keith; his parents-in-law, Elmer and Esther Streeper; brothers-in-law, Doc Corrigan and Dick Kahl. Darrell was born on October 23, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Richard and Bernita (Leser) Lewis. He attended Anamosa Schools and enlisted in the US Army in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1959. He married Judy Streeper on June 8, 1963, in Amber, Iowa. This union lasted 45 years. Darrell worked with Rockwell-Collins in Cedar Rapids for over 35 years, retiring about 1995. He loved to go camping, fishing, working in his wood shop and spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all those he left, but will be forever remembered for his kindness and helpfullness to everyone. He was a wonderful husband, dad and "papa" and was a rock of support for his extended family. Darrell D. Lewis, 69, of Anamosa, Iowa died Sunday, March 29, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa following a lengthy illness. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Kramer Funeral Home, Monticello, Iowa. Officiating will be Rev. Carla Burge. Darrell will be cremated and final disposition will occur at a later date.
