Obituary of Dale Clement Goedken

Survivors include a sister, Marian (John) Burger of New Vienna, 4 nephews: Brian (Nancy), Steve and Doug (Shiree) Burger, and Mike (Jane) Bucheim, 7 great nieces and nephews; special loved ones: Melissa Brown, Heath (Heather) Brown, Jenessa Brown and Aleasha Brown, all of Story City, Iowa. Dale was a grandfather to Hayden Brown, Heath and Heather's daughter. Dale was preceded in death by his parents Emil Goedken in 1976 and Cyrilla Goedken in 1998 and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Joan Goedken. Dale was born November 10, 1941, in Petersburg, Iowa the son of Emil and Cyrilla (Riesberg) Goedken. He graduated from Colesburg High School in 1959. He began working for Virgil Wessels and after about a year he began buying hogs for the Dubuque Packing Company, and later for FDL Foods. Dale owned and operated the Gee Whiz farm with Boone Wegmann. Dale played and coached softball and refereed high school basketball. He spent his retirement years doing the things he loved: golfing, fishing and traveling. Dale lived larger than life - anyone that knew him loved him. He was always there to lend a hand and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Friends may call from 2 - 9 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2009 at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where the Parish Scripture Service will be held at. 2 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Phil Kruse will officiate. Dale C. Goedken "Goedken Dale", 67, of Petersburg, died Saturday, April 04, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa after a sudden illness.
