Obituary of Irene Caroline Lechtenberg

Surviving are 2 brothers: Lawrence (Jeanette) Lechtenberg of Loveland, Colo. and Alfred E. (Esther) Lechtenberg of Masonville, Iowa and.; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 1 brother, Joe, and 5 sisters: Lucinda Heffernen, Marcella Vaske, Edna Huber, Leona Lechtenberg and Sr. Mary Cleopha, FSPA. Irene C. Lechtenberg, 98, of Manchester died Friday, May 29, 2009, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Irene was born November 29, 1910, in New Vienna, Iowa the daughter of Henry V. and Catherine J. (Sandman) Lechtenberg. She attended St. Boniface School until 8th grade and remained at home and worked for her parents until 1942. Irene became a housekeeper for Fr. Herbert Kreiger in Winthrop, Cresco and Colesburg until he retired in 1965. From 1965 to 1970 she kept house for Msgr. LeRoy Ensler in Cascade, from 1970 to 1974 for Fr. Tom Keating in Oelwein and Dubuque, and from 1974 to 2004 she kept house for Msgr. Cletus Hawes in Bellevue, Evansdale and Ossian. In all she was a housekeeper for Catholic clergy for 61 years until retiring in 2004 when she moved to the Meadows Assisted Living in Manchester. Friends may call from 4 - 7 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. Friends may also call after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. Officiating will be Rev. Msgr. Cletus Hawes with Rev. Jack Flaherty concelebrating. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery in New Vienna at 1:15 p.m.
