Survivors include his wife, Virginia, 3 daughters: Christine Olsem , Mary (Sean) Tindle both of Luxemburg, IA, Trudy (Eric) Lally of Dubuque, IA, 3 step-children: Teresa (Kevin) Hoeger of Bucyrus, OH, Gary Uhl (special friend, Dawn Hoeger), Kathy (Kevin) Gudenkauf both of Dyersville, 3 grandchildren: Tess, Thomas, Timothy Tindle of Luxemburg, 6 step-grandchildren: Nicole (Jason) Goddard of Crestline, OH, Benjamin Hoeger of Worthington, OH, Alex, Wesley, Travis, Kayla Gudenkauf of Dyersville, 2 step-great grandchildren: Allison and Logan Goddard of Crestline, OH, 2 sisters: Laurita Combs of Monticello, IA, Irene (Fred) Hoeger of Holy Cross, IA, 1 brother, Elmer (Wilma) Olsem of Colesburg, IA, and a sister-in-law, Betty Olsem of Dyersville. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Kathleen, one sister, Mildred Petsche and a brother, Marvin Olsem. Arnold was born on April 2, 1926, in Garnavillo, Iowa, the son of August and Anna (Harter) Olsem. He entered the service in 1953 serving in the Army as a heavy equipment engineer in Gaum until 1955. Arnold married Kathleen Meyers on August 20, 1959, in Luxemburg, Iowa. Together they farmed and raised their family outside of Luxemburg until moving to town and retiring in 1997. Kathleen preceded him in death on January 12, 1998. He later married Virginia B. (Dawdy) Uhl on June 9, 2000, in Dyersville, Iowa. Since then they resided in Dyersville. Arnold H. Olsem, 83, of Dyersville, Iowa died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at his residence. Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2009 at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where a parish scripture service will be held at 4:00 p.m. and an American Legion service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2009 at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Luxemburg, Iowa. Officiating will be Rev. Raymond Burkle. American Legion Post 137 will accord military honors.
