Rose Marie Heims, 71, of Monticello, Iowa died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family after a brief bout with cancer. Friends may call from 3 - 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, Iowa where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 20, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, Iowa, with inurnment in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade, Iowa. Officiating will be Fr. Keith Birch. Rosie was born on April 26, 1940, in Cascade, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Marguerite (Flanigan) McQuillen. She graduated from St. Martin's High School in Cascade with the Class of 1958. She received her Nursing Degree from Mercy Nursing School in Marshalltown, IA. She continued on at Kirkwood Community College where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. She married, and later divorced, Lawrence Heims who preceded her in death. Nursing became her career, working at the John McDonald Hospital, the Monticello Senior Home, the Univ. of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and Above and Beyond Home Health Care and later volunteered in their hospice program. Rosie was a very caring person who spent her free time volunteering with the Food Pantry. She was a very active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, being very devoted to the Rosary and receiving the Eucharist daily. Survivors include her children: Kim Faust and Jill (Shawn) Wernimont, both of Monticello, Tami (Shadd) Soper of Junction City, KS, 10 grandchildren: Nikki Hughes, Brandon, Allison and Makenzie Faust, Christian Heims, Karrsten and Kesston Wernimont, Kayla, Dylan and Mark Soper; one great grandchild, Jacob Faust; a sister, Grace Otting of Maquoketa, IA and brother, Pat (Dolores) McQuillen of Cascade, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: James and John McQuillen, her sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Butch Hochberger, and a brother-in-law, James Otting. Please no flowers or gifts. Memorials may be made to a charity of ones choice.
