Bernard was born on July 12, 1930, in Luxemburg, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Henrietta (Kluesner) Langel. He served in the US Army in Korea. Bernard and Helen Vaske were united in marriage on November 24, 1955, in New Vienna, Iowa. Barney bought livestock for Dubuque Packing Co. for 25 years and later sold Mormann Feed. Barney was a loving family man who shared his love of outdoors through fishing and hunting. He was a member of American Legion Post 137. Survivors include his wife, Helen, 5 children: Sandy (special friend Todd Ames) Leibfried of Potosi, WI, Jeff Langel of Cary, NC, Kevin (Marilyn) Langel, Doug Langel, and Todd (Sherie) Langel, all of Luxemburg, IA; 9 grandchildren; 4 brothers: Wilfred (Evy) of Oelwein, IA, Richard (Margie) of Oelwein, IA, Charles (special friend Karen) of Waterloo, Robert of Dubuque, IA; 4 sisters: Verna Mae (special friend, Del) White of Monticello, IA, Patricia (Marvin) Vaske of Garnavillo, IA, Eldora (Anthony) Koopmann of Dyersville, Carol (special friend Charlie) Langel of Delhi, IA; a sister-in-law, Shirley Langel of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a sister-in-law, Dottie (Ken) Nurre, and 5 brothers-in-law, Charlie (Mary Alice), Bill, Dick (Pat), Jim (Bev), and Marty (Joanie) Vaske. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Dave Leibfried, a brother, Jerry, and a sister and brother-in-law Kathy (Jim) Kerper, and a sister-in-law, Judy Langel. Friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 26, 2009, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where a parish scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. and an American Legion service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may continue to call after 9:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
