Obituary of Norma A. Brunsman
DYERSVILLE, IOWA
Norma Adell Brunsman, 94, of Dyersville and formerly of New Vienna, Iowa passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve morning, 2024 surrounded by family at MercyOne Senior Care in Dyersville.
Visitation will be held from 2 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa. Visitation will continue Friday morning from 9 - 10 a.m. at the funeral home prior to funeral mass.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2025 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Philip Agyei will officiate.
Norma was born at home in Petersburg, Iowa on December 4, 1930 to William and Calista (Klaus) Goedken. She married Vernon Brunsman on a snowy Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1954 in Petersburg, Iowa. Together they were married 62 years before Vernon’s passing in February 2017. They welcomed six children in eight years: Ron, Wayne, Phil, Janet, Karen and Connie with Ron being born on their 1st wedding anniversary. They farmed for many years in the Farley and New Vienna areas. Norma stayed very active as a farm wife, mother, gardener and seamstress. She enjoyed cooking and baking for loved ones and made the best pies and cookies. She spent many happy, busy years tending to her beloved garden and home in the country. Norma was a previous member of St. Boniface Church choir. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and also enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye basketball games.
Surviving Norma are her children: Ron Brunsman of Hopkinton, Wayne (Denise) Brunsman of New Vienna, Janet Brunsman and Karen (Glen) Hahn, both of Dyersville, Connie (Roger) Rivard of Bloomington, MN, daughter-in-law, Betty (Merlin) Feldmann of Epworth; grandchildren: Brian (Amy) Brunsman, Wade (Jennifer Clasen) Brunsman, Brent (Joan) Brunsman, Ross (Liz) Brunsman, Maty (Adam) McCarraher, Tracy (Matt) Kayser, Sara (Joey Gyorog) Hahn, Molly Hahn, Elizabeth (Tom) Florczak, Regina, Jeremy, Angela and Therese Rivard; great-grandchildren: Shawn & Kate Brunsman, Gabby & Luke Brunsman, Bryce, Aubrey & Blake Brunsman, Owen & Olivet Brunsman, Frances & Elwood Kayser, Wyatt, Wesley, Wren & Rhett McCarraher, Theodore & George Florczak, with one more due in 2025, siblings: Inez Hermsen of Manchester, Valeria Bockenstedt of Manchester, Carol (Dale) Clemen of Asbury, in-laws: Marilyn Goedken of Petersburg, Patsy Goedken of Manchester, Jan Rolfes of Osage and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vernon in 2017, her son, Phil in 2017, great-grandson Benjamin Brunsman, siblings: Gilbert (Germaine) Goedken, Helen (Emil) Wilgenbusch, Stella (Leo) Demmer, Mary Lou (Elmer) Engelken, LaVerne Goedken, John Goedken, Patricia (Marvin) Rolfes,
in-laws: Francis Hermsen, Irvin Bockenstedt, Inez (Vincent) Hoeger, Alma Brunsman, Ray Brunsman and Louis Brunsman.
