Obituary of Wayne Laverne Samuelson

Wayne L. Samuelson, 81, of Dyersville, and formerly of Jewell, Iowa died peacefully Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Dyersville, Iowa with his family at his side. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2012, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville. Visitation will also be held at the Jewell United Church of Christ in Jewell, Iowa on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, from 4 - 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, May 16, from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Jewell United Church of Christ, with his pastor, Reverend Kurt W. Pasko of Manchester officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell, Iowa where military honors will be accorded. Wayne was born September 13, 1930, in Perry, Iowa, the son of Art and Rosa (Rans) Samuelson. They moved to their new farm near Stanhope in 1936. He graduated from Stanhope schools in 1948, and then attended Drake University. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951, and was stationed in Germany as a MP until 1955. He married Janice J. Buckels on June 14,1959. They lived and farmed on the family farm near Stanhope until moving to Jewell in1969, while continuing to farm until 1995. Wayne served as a member on several boards, including The Hamilton County Fair Board, the Farm Service Board, and the First UCC Board in Jewell. He operated a pizza restaurant, Main Street Connection, in Jewell while collecting pedal tractors. In 1995, he moved his business, Samuelson Pedal Tractors, to Dyersville, Iowa where he was still involved. He and Janice moved to Dyersville in 2000. Wayne is survived by four children: Brooke (Ellen) Samuelson of Fort Myers, FL, Janett (Reed) Smith of Coppell, TX, Layne (Trish) Samuelson of Cedar Rapids, IA, and DeLoss Samuelson of Dyersville, IA; grandchildren: Lauren and Logan Samuelson, Linden and Olivia Smith, Adam and Cody (Amy) Samuelson; great grandchildren: Madilyn and Sylas Samuelson; one older brother, Robert; brothers-and-sisters-in-law: James Buckels of Cambridge, WI, Colleen (Jay) Ossman of Jefferson City, MO, Judy (Rodney) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, IA, Faye Buckels of Webster City, IA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice in 2011; brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Arloie Samuelson, Lloyd Buckels, Jr. and Janett Buckels. Memorials may be given to the Jewell United Church of Christ, the Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Manchester or the Gideons International.
