Deutmeyer Cousins,
Ray and I would like to offer each of you our deepest condolences on the passing of Keith.
He was a very special cousin always with a smile on his face.
I remember his excitement when I asked him to be my ring bearer at my wedding, which was also on his birthday. Everytime I would see him he would remind me that I got married on his birthday.
Wish we could be there with you all but Ray had an accident last Wednesday and is not able to travel that far or be left alone for that length of time. We will have a Mass said for Keith at our church, St. Joe's Church.
Cherish your memories and give each other a hug from us.
Diane Lucas and Ray Huegerich

Keith was my “assistant “ boys basketball coach for many years. He was loved by the coaching staff and all of the players. We are going to miss Keith.

Everytime we saw Keith he was happy and was so interested and knowledgeable about Kevin's family tree. He reminded Kevin about his aunt's birthdays, so that was very helpful. He loved being the ball boy at our kids football games. And Dorothy loved working with him at country junction. He touched our lives, and so many others. We are blessed for knowing him. My deepest sympathy to all of Keith;s family. Although he was born after I left Iowa, my parents - Leonard and Hilda Deutmeyer Hermsen - told me many stories about Keith. I finally met him at the Country Junction, where he was obviously much loved and a very hard worker. To all his siblings, especially JoAnn and Janet - my prayers are with you at this sad time. Your cousin, Kay Hermsen Holtz

I was a teacher at WDHS when Keith was a student there. I did not have him in any of the the classes I taught. I knew him only as a face in the hallway or at a table in the lunchroom, one face among many hundreds of faces.
But now, almost 50 years later, I can recall his face easily. That smile--the smile of someone holding a special knowledge that the rest of us could never have. Those eyes--the eyes of someone who lived with wonderment, joy, curiosity, generosity of spirit, and love.
Keith was the teacher, and we would do well to look to him when we ponder what it means to be a child of God.

Keith was a gift to this world- funny and joyful, frisky and playful- he was always there with a smile and a joke and a laugh that could light up a room. He taught many tolerance and forgiveness and showed the world how full a life can be even with Downs. My favorite memories are seeing Keith walking to the pool with his towel on on a hot summer day, going to pizza with him and Mark and our boys and reminiscing about all of the girls he fell in love with over the years. Keith is in a much better place for sure, and I’m quite certain, living his next best life. RIP Keithy.

I worked with Keith at the Country Junction when I was a teenager and interacted with him during Beckman football! He always brought a smile to my face and would even walk me home when I was too young to work full shifts at 14. He will be missed! RIP Keith
