DYERSVILLE, IOWA

 

Gerald G. “Greg” Brimeyer, 93, of Dyersville, Iowa passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the Good Neighbor Home Marietta’s Place in Manchester, Iowa.

 

Visitation will be held from 9 – 10:30 am on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, with burial at St. Francis Cemetery.  Military Honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137.

 

Greg was born April 19, 1931, in North Buena Vista, Iowa, son of Fred and Hilda (Tschirgi) Brimeyer.

He started his career by working for Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad for a couple years.  He then enlisted in the US Air Force and trained as an aircraft electrician in San Antonio, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Chanute AFB, Ill.  Greg served in the occupation of Germany during the Korean War from1952 – 1956, earning his high school diploma from Holy Cross in 1955.  He returned and married Carol Thoeni on June 21, 1958, in Dyersville, where they made their home and raised their family.  Greg worked for John Deere in Dubuque for 31 years as a computerized layout inspector until retiring in 1987.

 

His hobbies include traveling, woodworking, spending time with family, playing cards and collecting foreign coins and John Deere belt buckles.  He was a member of American Legion Post 137 and Knights of Columbus Council # 1734 and 4th Degree Dubourg Assembly, UAW Local 94, and UAW John Deere Retirees.

 

Survivors include his children: Kevin (Cathy) of Lubbock, TX, Linda (Ron) Streck of Sycamore, IL, and Keith of Davenport, IA; 7 grandchildren: Meghan (Corey) Rupp of Anamosa, IA, Lisa (Daniel) Kaminski of St. Charles, IL, Katie Streck of South Elgin, IL, Ashley (Bryan) Hentges of Round Rock, TX, Elizabeth (Tucker) Thompson of Lubbock, TX, Callie (Liz) Macauley of Waterloo, IA, and Andrew (Eva) Brimeyer of Iowa City, IA, 6 great grandchildren, and a sister, Laura (Leon) Sigwarth of Balltown, IA.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carol in 2017, and siblings: Selma (Bill) Boyce, Alvin, Bob (Virginia), Nick (Verna) Brimeyer, Stella (Matt) Hefel, Mildred (Norbert) Tressel, Carol (Rex) Ellsworth, Harvey (Shirley) Brimeyer and Earl (LaVonne) Brimeyer.
