Obituary of Joan Frances Koppes
MONTICELLO, IOWA
Joan F. Koppes, 79, of Monticello, Iowa passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Mercy Medical Center, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Cascade, IA. A Catholic Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. with burial following at Calvary Cemetery in Cascade. Rev. Osterhaus will officiate.

Joan was born on October 27, 1944, in Castle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Leona (Lavery) Koob. She graduated with honors from Aquin High School in Cascade, was on student council, and was involved in 4H. In 1989, she graduated from Clarke College in Dubuque, IA with a Bachelors Degree in Business & Accounting achieving highest honors (Summa Cum Laude), while also raising her seven children as a single parent.
She spent her working career in some of the following positions: Owner & Operator of the Double K Diner in Cascade, Secretary at Cascade High School, Iowa Workforce Development in Dubuque, Operation New View in Manchester, ECIA and an Employment & Training Specialist at Jones County Family Resource Center where she would later retire.
She was a dedicated and loving mother to her seven children. She enjoyed spending time as a vocalist and drummer in a band, The Country Drifters, for several years with performances at weddings, dances, the Great Jones County Fair, as well as many other special events.
She is survived by her children: Lisa Smith of Waverly, Randy (Beth) Koppes of Iowa City, Marty Koppes of Dubuque, Tim Koppes of Maquoketa, Jen (Dom) Luensman of Monticello, Ben (Andrea) Koppes of Ely and Anna (Trevor) Siebels of Marion; her 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; her siblings: Richard (Grace) Koob of Silvis, IL, Dave (Alice) Koob of Maquoketa, Patrick (Darlene) Koob and Connie Koob of Palestine, TX, and Jerald (Janice) Koob of Cascade.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son (Francis), siblings: James Koob, Mary Ann (Koob) Keegan, Robert Koob, in-laws: Duane Keegan, Donna Koob and a nephew, Jeff Keegan.
A special thank you to Mercy Medical Center Doctors, Nurses and staff for all the wonderful care of our mother especially in her final hours. Thank you to Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Nurses, CNAs and staff for their dedication and special care of our mother over the past three years. Additionally, thank you to Grand River Medical Group Doctors, Nurses, and staff for their outstanding and continuous care of our mother over the years.
