Marilyn K. Moats Opperman, 83, of Monticello, Iowa passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024 at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

 

Visitation will be held from 9–11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello, Iowa. Funeral services will commence at 11:00 a.m. with burial in the church cemetery.  Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate and Rev. Paul McManus will be concelebrating.

 

Marilyn, daughter of Albert and Mary (Anton) Moser, was raised in Strawberry Point, Iowa.  She married her high school sweetheart, Ken Moats, in 1959 in Strawberry Point. They eventually settled in Monticello in 1964, where they raised five children. Marilyn loved gathering with family, playing cards with friends, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Following Ken’s death, she married Ivan Opperman. Marilyn continued to enjoy watching her family grow and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

Survivors include her children: Steve (Julie) Moats of Roland, Leanne Moats of Hiawatha, Pam (the late Don) McCarthy of Monticello, Curt (Diann) Moats of Anamosa, Shelly (Dan) Ricklefs of Maple Grove, MN; 22 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; a sister, Rita Barnett, and a brother-in-law, Chuck Moats.

 

Marilyn was preceded in death by Ken Moats, a son-in-law, Don McCarthy, and Ivan Opperman.
