Dear Matt, Mike, and relatives and extended family of Dan, I am expressing my sincere condolences to each and everyone of you as you bid farewell to a man you loved so much. I remember Dan from coming into the library to check out books so very often. He was always kind and friendly usually sharing some bit of humor. May he be at peace and free from pain and suffering. He is reaping the rewards of the seeds he sowed while on earth. Rest in peace Dan. Sincerely meant Miriam Eick

My condolences to your family on the loss of Dan. As an atty, I appeared before him many times representing people in mental health commitments. Magistrate Dan was always compassionate and followed the law. His sense of humor was contagious. We also enjoyed serving as extras together in Field of Dreams. I was delighted when Dan and fellow atty Bill Conzett (who also passed this month) made it into the film as the banker and lawyer trying to foreclose on Ray’s farm. Dan lives on in baseball legacy.

I worked for Dan at the Garnavillo Auction House for a couple years and he was always nice to me and always treated me fairly. He was a good guy. I am very sorry for your loss.

From the minute we met at BV, I knew we'd be friends. The only Freshmen from "big schools" on our floor, surrounded by small town Iowans. Mass Comm majors passionate about baseball with sarcastic wit. Dan was always there for four years. Afterwards, there was a trip to Atlanta, where I saw my first game in Atlanta Stadium. Two years later, I would move there and see many games. I visited Dyersville and FOD in 90 and 91 and had some moments I will never forget. I finally returned in early August and am so thankful I had lunch and dinner with Dan. Fittingly, the last text from him the day before he departed, was about a baseball game.

I knew Dan throughout high school. He was bright, outgoing, energetic and a friend to all. And what a wit and smile! I am glad to have known him and know he lives on in so many ways through so many people!
