Obituary of Peter F. Oberbroeckling
LUXEMBURG, IOWA
Peter Felix “Pete” Oberbroeckling was born on June 16th, 1935, in Luxemburg, Iowa, the son of John W and Katie (Rausch). A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on Friday, August 2nd, 2024, at the age of 89, surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a legion service will commence at 7 p.m. by American Legion Post #656. Visitation will continue from 9 – 9:45 a.m. prior to funeral mass at Kramer Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Chris Podhajsky will officiate.
On April 4th, 1961, Pete and Jane Oberbroeckling were married at SS Peter & Paul Church. He served as a private in the US Army from 1956-1957 and was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. He worked in the construction business for many years before starting P&J Construction in 1980 as a general contractor. After 41 years they retired to spend more time with friends and family. Pete enjoyed watching the Yankees, playing cards, fishing, tractorcades, and eating ice cream. They were blessed with eight children: Roger (Julie) of Luxemburg, IA; Gerry of Holy Cross, IA; Janet (Matt) Herold of Cedar Rapids, IA; Merle (Gina) of Colesburg, IA; Mike (Allie) of Raleigh, NC; Lisa (Bob) Meis of Cedar Rapids, IA; Scott (Amanda) of Solon, IA; and Doug (deceased in 1979).
Pete’s grandchildren who will carry on his legacy are: Doug (Nicole), Steve, Andrew, and Allie Oberbroeckling; Hannah and Emma Herold; Andrew Hoeger-Pint, Carter, and Brody Oberbroeckling; Avery Oberbroeckling; Melissa (Noah) and Maddie Meis; Griffin Blackhurst, Nick, and Mackenzie Oberbroeckling along with his great grandchildren: Everett and Delaney Oberbroeckling.
Pete is survived by siblings: Clara Harter, Anna Mae Scherbring, Leo Oberbroeckling, David (Julie) Oberbroeckling, Hilda (Clem) DeMuth, Clyde (Lou Ann) Oberbroeckling, John L. Oberbroeckling, Walt Oberbroeckling, and in-laws: Kay Oberbroeckling Herman, Dorothy Ludwig, and Joe (Joan) Harter.
He was preceded in death by his parents John W. and Katie Oberbroeckling; parent in-laws, Serenus and Tillie Harter, twin sisters, Alice and Alma Oberbroeckling, brother, Hugo and sisters-in-law, Shirley and Carolyn Oberbroeckling, Alice & Ralph Digman, Elmer & Connie Harter, and brother in-laws: Henry Harter, Bob Scherbring, Bill Ludwig, Fred Herman, and son, Doug Oberbroeckling.
