Obituary of Louis F. Heims
Louis F. Heims passed away peacefully at home in Edmonds, Washington on February 19th, 2024.
A memorial service will be held for Louis on July 20th, 2024, at the St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa at 10:00 am.
Louis was born on October 22, 1932, on a farm outside of Sand Springs, Iowa to George and Florence Heims. He was one of 4 children, Joe (deceased), Laura (deceased) and Mary (currently living in Monticello). Louis and his family had a difficult time early on with the passing of his father when Louis was only 3. They struggled and survived and after high school Louis attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Louis went to work for the IRS and married the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann (Betty Menster) from Cascade, Iowa. Betty was a nurse and she worked to put Louis through law school at the University of Iowa. The two moved to Dyersville after law school and Louis entered private practice at Moss, Heims, Casey Law Firm. While in Dyersville Louis was an advocate for the city and its people. He helped create the Dyersville area Chamber of Commerce and was its first president, he served as the city attorney numerous times, was a member of the Lion’s Club, he was a negotiator for the West Dubuque School Board, he contributed to many civic projects, and he never stopped giving of his time and talents to the city of Dyersville. Louis and Betty enjoyed retirement, exploring the world and spending time with their two children Tracy and Angela, and grandchildren, Claire and Nolan Conway and Ava Heims. They lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, Geibelstadt, Germany with Angela and family before finally settling down with Tracy, his wife Ayda and daughter Ava in Edmonds, Washington State where he passed away peacefully.
Burial mass to be held Saturday, July 20th, at the Dyersville, Basilica with a reception to follow at the Dyersville Country Club.
