Obituary of Gregory Scott Wagner
Gregory S. Wagner, 74 of Dyersville, Iowa passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at MercyOne in Dubuque, Iowa.
As a Veteran, it seemed fitting to hold his visitation on “Memorial Day” Monday, May 27, 2024 from 2 – 7 p.m. at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa. Visitation will continue from 9 – 10 a.m. at the funeral home prior to funeral mass.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery where military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Rev. Chris Podhajsky will officiate.
Greg was born on November 16, 1949 in Monroe, WI, the son of Richard and Ruth (Pink) Wagner. He married Elaine Bildstein on May 12, 1973 in Petersburg, Iowa. Greg served in the US Navy from 1968 - 1972. He was a member of the American Legion Post 137 for 49 years, holding roles of Commander and Service Officer throughout these years. Greg’s greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, and 9 grandchildren. He loved taking them on trips to the Wisconsin Dells and cheering them on in all of their activities. He enjoyed playing euchre, wood working, golfing, putting together puzzles, telling bad dad jokes, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and taking day trips with Elaine in the “lil one”.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine; children: Scott (Kelli) Wagner of Dubuque, Jason (Theresa) Wagner of Palatine, IL, Jenny (Jason) Hillebrand of Dyersville; grandchildren: Abby, Michael, Alison, Christopher, Nathan, and Maxwell Wagner, Claire, Carley, and Gracie Hillebrand; siblings: Tony (Doris) Wagner, Bill (Geri) Wagner all of Dyersville, Bob (Sandy) Wagner of Baraboo, WI, Tom (Sandy) Wagner and Ann (Marty) Maiers all of Iowa City, Mark (Micky) Wagner of Earlville, Mary Kay (Aaron) Chambers of West Des Moines; in-laws: Bob (Corlas) Bildstein and Judy Birch both of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his parents and parent-in-laws, Clarence and Charlotte Bildstein.
