Obituary of Rodney George DeSotel
Rodney G. DeSotel, 78 of Luxemburg, Iowa passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at MercyOne in Dubuque, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville. Visitation will continue from 9 - 10 a.m. prior to funeral mass.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg with burial in the church cemetery where military honors will be accorded. Rev. Tyler Raymond will officiate.
Rodney was born on November 9, 1945, in Guttenberg, Iowa, the son of Mark and Alice (Berns) DeSotel. He graduated from St. Boniface High School in 1963. Rodney was drafted in 1964 into the United States Army and served until 1971. He married Mary Ludwig on October 23, 1971 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Farley, Iowa. He farmed outside of Luxemburg, IA all of his life. Through that he taught his children the value of hard work and finding the joy of the simple things in life. One of his simple enjoyments in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mary; children: Brian (Chantelle Zack) DeSotel of New Vienna, Jason (Erin) DeSotel of Bellevue, and Janell (Steve) Schilling of Colesburg; grandchildren: Ethan, Alaina, Nicholas, McKenzie, Brayden DeSotel, Ashley, Luke, and Nolan Schilling; siblings: Betty (Joseph) Mallie of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Linda) DeSotel of Fairfax, Sandra (Garland) Otto of Albert City, Sue (Robyn) Schultz of Guttenberg, Bradley (Kathleen) DeSotel of Athens, AL, and Ned DeSotel of Green Bay, WI; in-laws: Jim (Mary) Ludwig, John (LaVonne) Ludwig, Judy (Dick) Link, David (Betty) Ludwig, Gary (Mary Jane) Ludwig, Darlene (Ken) Besler, Linda (Neil) Hoeger, and Kathy (Joe) Jasper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Bonnie DeSotel, Bruce DeSotel in infancy; and Parent-in-laws, Leon and Kathryn Ludwig.
The family would like to thank Dr. Simsir, Dr. Ram, and the nursing staff at MercyOne Medical Center in Dubuque for their care and compassion.
