Obituary of Eleanor E. Wroblewski

MONTICELLO, IOWA

Eleanor (Tuddy) Evelyn Wroblewski , 90, of Olathe, KS and formerly of Marion, IA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at the Hospice House in Olathe after a lengthy and courageous battle against cancer.

A private visitation for family will be held from 11:00 a.m. to Noon on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, Iowa.  A public visitation and memorial service will start at 12:00 p.m., with her burial at the Oakwood Cemetery to follow immediately thereafter. A gathering will be held at the Eagles Club in Monticello following the burial for a meal and continued memories of Tuddy.

Eleanor or “Tuddy” as she was called by those that knew her well, was born on February 27, 1934, in Monticello, Iowa, where she was the eighth of nine children born to her parents, Allen and Rachel (Leggett) Reyner. She married LaVern Wroblewski and they started farming in nearby Anamosa. The couple later moved to Marion and then to Lawerence, KS.  They moved back to Cedar Rapids, IA several years later and eventually settled in Marion.  Eleanor had two daughters, Vickie and Valerie, from her marriage to LaVern. Eleanor worked hard to maintain her residence in Marion so she could be close to her family, welcoming all with a place to stay.  In 2019, she moved to Olathe, KS, where her daughter Valerie lives.

Tuddy (Too-dee) was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion.  She enjoyed bowling and played in a league with longtime friends, Sharon, Barb and Carol. She loved to listen to country music,  enjoyed dancing and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, never missing a game. Eleanor was employed at Younkers Department Store in Lindale Mall for 18 years. After working in various departments, she became the head supervisor for the China department. She also was employed at Mercy Home Health Care for 15 years as a CNA. She worked hard, enjoyed people, so she was in her element serving her customers at Younkers and helping patients, through Mercy Home Health Care, stay in their homes for as long as they could.

Her greatest joys and loves of her life were her two daughters, eight grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with them and teaching them board games and card games that she loved to play.  Throughout the years when her family would visit and especially at Thanksgiving and Christmastime, all would gather around her dining room table to play these games, sharing in much laughter and fun.

Eleanor is survived by her aforementioned daughters, Vickie Scott of Marion and Valerie (Roy) Vaughn of Olathe, KS; her special grandchildren: Joshua (Ann) Engelbart, Sarah Kula, Brett (Karri) Vaughn, Peter (Jennifer) Vaughn, Caley (Matt) Wrigley, Amy (Jonathan) Morris, and Kristin (Brandon) Beall, and G.G. Vaughn; and those very special 15 great-grandchildren: Luke, Ava, Emily, Zach, Arrianna, Laila, Kendra, Matthew, Jaiya, Evelyn, Elena, Chloe, Tahlia, Nicole and Nathaniel.  She is survived by her beloved sister, Mary Tschantz of Monticello, her esteemed brother-in-law, Jene Schmidt of Marion, and many nieces and nephews who she always enjoyed seeing.  Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Max Reyner and Sam Reyner, five sisters, Norma Childers, Alleyne Childers, Hazel Sybell, Betty Ward, and Janice Schmidt.

Eleanor was very thankful to the staff at the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center in Cedar Rapids, especially Dr. Ann Stroh. Also, her family would like to thank the staff at Hospice House in Olathe, KS for their compassionate and sensitive care, all the caregivers and especially Eleanor’s nurses, Tabby, Lisa, Diane and Patty.
