Margaret was born on October 7, 1931, the daughter of Anton and Mary (Kremer) Trenkamp. She married Roman J. Bertling on January 30, 1965 in Dyersville, Iowa. Together they raised their family and farmed in the Worthington area.
Mother was a private and quiet person. She lived in rural Dyersville and Worthington all her life and involved in agriculture all her life. Mother witnessed incredible change during the course of her life. She walked to Dyersville School, a daily round trip of 6 miles. She witnessed rural electrification in the early 1950s. She cherished her three boys and her husband. She stood by her husband and family no matter the circumstances. When younger, she helped outside feeding and caring for the cattle. Even near the end, she wanted to know if the chores were done. Mother was an excellent homemaker, incredible cook, incredible wife, and incredible mother, and had an amazing work ethic. She was light in the lives of her children, family, and friends. She will be dearly missed by us all.
Survivors include her children: Steve Bertling of Myrtle Beach, SC, Tom Bertling and Mike (Amy) Bertling, both of Worthington; grandchildren: Noah, Anna, Cara Bertling of Worthington and Megan (Will) DeBoard of North Liberty; great grandchildren: Declan, Gavin, Jaxon and Brinley DeBoard; sister, Donna Snitker of Waukon; in-laws: Mary Bertling of Dyersville, Mary Trenkamp of Dubuque, and Patricia Trenkamp of Monticello, Betty Ockenfels of Iowa City and Donna Manternach of Monticello.
