This is my second time adding a memory & photo of Marilyn. This photo represents what we called “The Fab Four.” Casey Westhoff, Marilyn, Linda Dunshee & me (Lisa Pakkebier). We would typically meet every other week to discuss our advocacy, strategy, & what was important to us in the provider industry. We were more than colleagues, we were friends. We had fun & we accomplished so much together. Marilyn’s knowledge, experience, guidance, passion & commitment to helping others was second to none. We were blessed to have her in our life, personally & professionally. She will be missed dearly.

I had the pleasure of knowing Marilyn for many years during my employment with ANCOR, a national association. She volunteered so many hours with us and shared her knowledge with so many. She was tireless. I always looked forward to seeing her at in-person meetings/conferences and we always made time to have a lengthy chat. She was an incredible advocate for people with disabilities on the national, state and local levels. I had the good fortune to visit her at Hills and Dales once and spend the day there. I witnessed her grace, warmth and commitment to everyone at the agency first hand. My sincere condolences to her family. She will certainly be missed by so many.

All of us at ANCOR - the American Network of Community Options and Resources - are greatly saddened by her passing. Marilyn was a true champion for people with disabilities and we were honored to work alongside her. She was a tireless advocate at both the state and federal level, always answering the call to educate her members of Congress about the importance of ensuring quality supports and services. Her colleagues from around the country benefited from her passion - her contributions to our field will long be remembered. Marilyn, we are so grateful to have worked with you, and for your friendship.

I know that there are no words that can help take away the excruciating pain & loss that you, Marilyn's family, is going through now & moving forward. Marilyn made a difference in this world to so many people, & in so many ways. I will forever cherish my time, my relationship, and my memories of & with Marilyn. She was truly one of a kind. Her compassion, empathy, & fierce advocacy was second to none. Our professions & legislative advocacy brought us together. In many ways Marilyn was a mentor to me. I learned so much from her over the years & will forever be grateful for our time together. Marilyn left her legacy & had a profound impact on countless people (regardless of their abilities or disabilities). My thoughts, prayers & condolences to her family. As you know only too well, this world will not be the same without Marilyn.

The words are not enough to express all my love and gratitude to the Althoff family, especially to Marilyn. Speaking of Marilyn is recalling a strong, helpful woman, always supporting anyone she could. She even welcomed my son Max Paul Gordon when he was just 12 years old, staying with them for two months. They were so affectionate and kind that he wanted to return the following year. From that moment on, Marilyn became his adoptive mother, seeing him as another son in the family. She always advised and guided him when he went to work in the United States. I visited her at her home, and I will never forget her kindness despite the language barrier. We attended Mass at St. Joseph, and I could only express my thanks during that visit. She had so much affection for my son that she attended his wedding with her whole family and got to know our country, Panama. A thousand thanks, Marilyn. May the angels accompany your soul to the Kingdom of the Lord.

I knew Marilyn 30 years ago, you welcomed my little brother into your home and from that moment, you took him as yours. Thank you for being there for him all these years. As we say, he has two mothers, Etelvina & Marilyn. I know how much you loved him, my nephews and his wife. You leave us a void but also an example of life and love because you impact in too many lives. Heaven has welcomed a beautiful angel, you will live in our hearts
