To My Brother
As kids, we lived together. We fought, we laughed, we cried. We did not always show the love, that we both had inside. We shared the dreams and plans, and some secrets too. All the memories we share is what bonds me now to you. We grew to find we have a love that is very strong today. It's a love shared by our family that will never fade away.
You are my brother by choice, but by the nature of our birth. I could not have chosen a better one you are the best on earth.

We had just met Brian in November this year, when he came to my father-in-law, Jerry Ray's funeral. Brian had worked with Jerry at the prison until Jerry retired. We really enjoyed and appreciated his kindness, and we were able to hear about their time as co-workers. We are so sorry for your loss. We will hold your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Brian was in the very first class I taught at Shannon Elementary! (January 1976). I will never forget that little guy with such a twinkle in his eye and his impish grin!
Over the years as Brian and Berta's family progressed through the Shannon hallways and in a few cases, my classroom, Brian always would greet me and ask "How's my old teacher these days?" (That really makes a "former" teacher feel old!) Nonetheless, it was always great to talk with him and catch up on his family. He was so proud of each and every one of his children and their varied talents. Thinking of Brian will always bring a smile to my face. With much sympathy, Pat Bell

Brian’s generosity and kindness is something I will always remember. He and Ben saved the day when we were on RAGBRAI and our team vehicle broke down. They drove up to Independence, IA to fetch our trailer, take me and the trailer to Cedar Rapids to unload it, then to Iowa City to return it, while the rest of the team finished the ride. This type of generosity of his time was a common occurrence for Brian.
Sending love and strength to the whole family, today and in the difficult time ahead. Brian will be greatly missed.
