Steven William Salter, 65, of Dyersville, Iowa passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday December 13, 2023, in the headquarters of Salty Acres.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville. Visitation will continue at Kramer Funeral Home from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral mass.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Chris Podhajsky will officiate with Rev. Dennis Quint concelebrating.
Steve was born on December 8, 1958, in Huron, South Dakota, the son of Gordon “Mike” and Shirley (Biever) Salter. He always said he had “the best childhood ever, being raised in Lake Preston.” In High School, he excelled in all sports and was selected from the top players in South Dakota to play in an international basketball tournament in Italy. Steve played college football and graduated from South Dakota State University in 1981. He worked at a feedlot until he met his wife Ann Rounds on a blind date. He welcomed her two children as his own. In 1989, they moved to Dyersville with their three-week-old daughter Ellyse, where he built the Edward Jones business you see today. After over three decades of success, he recently retired and turned the reins over to his youngest son and son-in-law.
President of Dyersville Economic Development, former President of the Lions’ Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the Beckman Booster Club, Dyersville Golf and Country Club, and investor of area businesses, Steve’s impact doesn’t come to an end with his death as he left a legacy for future generations of the Dyersville community. He gave his time, talent, and treasure daily to the Church.
DJ Steve was everyone’s favorite host, whether it was a drink and a cigar with a friend in his garage, a gathering of family and friends at Salty Acres, or a night of music and dancing in Arizona, Iowa or South Dakota. His favorite days were filled with time with his children & grandchildren, hauling wood, tailgating Iowa football games, watching the Twins and Vikings and golfing the courses of Iowa and Arizona. Steve would always say he saw the world with his wife. He enjoyed travels from a safari in Africa to being a cowboy in Yellowstone National Park, making a friend everywhere he went.
In true Steve Salter fashion, he left early…
