Dear Mescher and Funke Families, Now is the time to extend sympathies to each of you as you say a fond farewell to your dad, grandpa, brother, and friend to so many. We know he certainly was a pillar of this community, so for a while there will be dark gray clouds hovering but they will dissipate rather quickly because Roger would want happiness and smiles. Although I did not know Roger, he was married to one of my 60+ Deutmeyer first cousins, and we cousins had wonderful times together. I am sure she spoke of the "Betty Ann Wine" forays in the basement of our grandparents' home in Petersburg. And could we ever forget playing "last tick" as we tried to get into our cars as the fun days ended? It sounds so silly now, but it was very important at the time.
