ANAMOSA, IOWA

 

Patrick L. Sams, 69, of Anamosa, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Unity Point St. Luke’s Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

 

Patrick was born on December 10, 1953, in Anamosa, the son of Herbert and Alice Susan (Young) Sams. He married Marilyn Noe on April 8, 1978, in Tucson, AZ. Patrick had a love for fast cars, motorsports and a hobby for drag racing with a '57 Chevy 2-door sedan named Mighty Mouse. He also raced a 1971 Chevelle in the early 2000's. It was a family affair; his parents, brothers, nephew Micheal, and Baker Cousins would be involved. Patrick received a world record in his class in 1982 by American Hot Rod Association from AHRA NATIONALS in July 1975. Patrick found a love for working on vehicles at a very young age and worked on them his whole life ending his career with Tom's Trucking as a mechanic and truck parts salesman nationally and internationally working there for 16 years in Orange County, CA.

 

Patrick enjoyed spending time with all of his family, as well as in-law's family. Patrick was always seen with a smile on his face, cracking the perfect dad joke. He always enjoyed setting up and putting together a fantastic 4th of July celebration at his home, this was one of his favorite holiday's. He also looked forward to the festival of lights through the new year. Patrick was extremely involved in Ministry outreach with his wife, Marilyn, helping with orphans as well as generously helping single mothers get their vehicles repaired. Patrick had a passion for coaching little league. In his later years Patrick took his '57 Chevy to different car shows around the U.S., he won many trophies for best engine. Patrick had a passion for the restoration of cars.    

 

Survivors include his wife, his father, Herbert, siblings: Herbert “Mike” Sams, John (Leslie) Sams from Tucson, AZ, and Jeff (Beverly) Sams, from Noblesville, IN; In-laws: Mary Sams, of Tucson, AZ, Richard (Cindee) Noe of Marion, IA, Jim (Kimberly) Noe, Steve Noe and Debra (Mike) Carson, all of Anamosa, IA.

Survived by 15 nieces and nephews, as well as 2 great-nephews and 4 great-nieces. 

 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Alison, parents-in-law, Alvin and Betty Noe, a brother, David Sams, and a sister-in-law, Nelda Sams.
