Obituary of Iva Mae Ungs
DYERSVILLE, IOWA
Iva Ungs, 84, of Dyersville and formerly of Luxemburg and Monticello passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023, at MercyOne Senior Care in Dyersville.
Visitation will be held from 3 – 7 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville. Visitation will continue at the funeral home from 8:30 – 9:30a.m. prior to funeral mass.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Tyler Raymond will officiate.
Iva was born on May 15, 1939, in Petersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Irma (Goedken) Deutmeyer. She married Marvin Ungs on July 1, 1965, in Petersburg. Together they farmed in the Luxemburg area.
She retired off of the farm and moved to Dyersville in the early 2000’s. She moved to Monticello in 2013. She volunteered at Oak Crest Manor, the Garden Clubs of Dyersville and Monticello and she was a member of the Red Hat Ladies.
Survivors include her children, Scott (Kaylee) Ungs of New Vienna, Karri Burkhart of Sioux Falls, SD and Russell Ungs of Garnavillo, IA; grandchildren: Rick (friend Melissa) Schilling, Paige and Dayton Ungs, Matthew and Audrey Burkhart; siblings: Marilyn Prier of Dyersville, Frank (Joy) Deutmeyer of Anamosa, Joyce Klosterman Brennan of Manchester, Carol Vorwald of New Vienna, Fred (Bonnie) Deutmeyer of Dyersville and Ken (Margie) Deutmeyer of Guttenberg; a step sister, Mary Jane Westhoff of Dyersville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a stepmother, Delores Schlarmann Tegeler Geistkemper Deutmeyer, her husband, Marvin; siblings: Leon and Phil Deutmeyer, and in-laws: Gerald Prier, Richard Klosterman and Fred Vorwald.
Memorials are preferred to Camp Courageous of Iowa or Hospice of Dubuque. The family wished to thank the staff’s of Hospice of Dubuque and MercyOne Senior Care for their compassionate care.
