David C. Elenz, 70, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Dyersville, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023 at his home with his loving wife, Joan, by his side celebrating his 70th birthday.
Visitation will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville. Visitation will continue at Kramer Funeral Home from 9 - 10 a.m. prior to the funeral mass.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023 at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Chris Podhajsky will officiate.
David was born on October 1, 1953 in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Mildred (Rausch) Elenz. He married Joan Schuster on January 15, 2005 at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa.
David was a life-long member of St. Francis Xavier Basilica. He graduated from Beckmann Catholic High School, Class of 1971. After 39 years of employment as a truck driver
with Bard Materials in Dyersville, Iowa, he retired on December 31, 2021.
His strong faith, family, friends, and career were the most important to him. He was kind, sweet, and the most generous man you would ever know, with a heart of gold.
Survivors include his wife, Joan of Dubuque; siblings: Gary (Jay) Elenz of Kansas City, MO, Mark (Clara) Elenz of Dubuque, Dennis Elenz of Peosta, Nick (Anne) Elenz of Glendale, AZ, Leon Elenz of Peosta; in-laws: Barbara (James) Maiers of Dubuque, Jeffrey Schuster of Bucharest, Romania. Susan Okechukwu of Hackensack, NJ, John Schuster of Ukiah, CA, Joseph (Jeanette) Schuster of Chesterfield, MO, Ann (Christopher) Hollins of Westfield, NJ, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, Harry and Starla Schuster; nephew, Nicholas Elenz; and a sister-in-law, Aimee Oeter.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the physicians at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and Dr. Hillard Salas and Dr. Mark Hermann and their staff. Also, a thank you to the staff at Hospice of Dubuque, especially Nurse Julie and Angela.
