To our brother Mike
You gave no on one a last farewell, nor ever said good-bye.
You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why.
A million times we will cry.
If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died.
In life we loved you dearly. In death we love you still.
In our hearts you hold a place, no one else can fill.
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone.
We will meet again someday we know in a better place.
I thank God He made you our brother while you were here on earth.

When Gene and I started dating in the spring of 1979, it wasn’t long before I learned that Mike was a younger brother and since Gene still lived at home, I wanted to converse with him more than 2 x a week, which is all my mother allowed. I would write letters to Gene during Study Hall and wrap them in triangles (known as footballs) and hand them off to Mike to bring home to Gene! It was always interesting to see if Gene shared any of them or Mike ever opened them and told anybody what I said! I never heard, so if he did read then, he must have kept them quiet! Also, Gene had such a hard time unwrapping them (as I’m sure Mike did) he could never wrap them back up! lol This is what they call texting today, I believe!
Another memory of Mike is when we were godparents of Andrea, Kevin and Paula’s daughter, together. We were to sit on the sofa with Andrea between us and Mike said he was too nervous, I should hold her. He sat down and I said he should hold her till I sat and we got situated so he did and as soon as I sat, they started snapping pictures, and she was so sweet and cuddly he held her for awhile longer!
