Words alone cannot possibly express how sad I am that my dear only sister has passed away. I write this with tears streaming down my cheeks but I am sad - not for her - but for myself, my brother, Don, and Lil's loving family. We shared so many happy times together as children on the farm - half way between Petersburg and New Vienna. Our parents taught us to be kind, hard working, and how to "play ball." We spent so many summer nights "shagging" fly balls and we thought it would never end. But then she met Bob Steger, and he took her away from us - to Washington State for a few months while he finished his Army commitment. Happily, they returned and found their new life on the Witte farm near Dyersville where they raised their large family. And then it was my turn to leave Iowa. But Jerry and I brought our children back every year (sometimes twice) and our kids felt the Steger farm was as close to heaven as they could get. We had many loud euchre tournaments and volley ball games. Again, we thought it would never end. But it did, and I have missed our long phone calls, visits on the porch. I will carry all those wonderful memories in my heart forever, God bless her family for their dedication to their parents. You will be rewarded. Her sister, Kay Holtz

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to the entire Steger family. The way the Steger family cared for Bob and Lillian in their home for 4 plus years is nothing short of remarkable. May God bless you for your kindness and may your happy memories console you. Linda Kerper

Lillian was my cousin, neighbor and babysitter long ago, sister-in-law and absolutely lovely woman. I have so many wonderful memories when she helped my mother after a birth, loved to dance, and was always smiling. She will be missed.
