Met Marion at Modernfold, I worked with her on the final assembly line, I loved her bubbly personality and amazing laugh, sometimes she would speak German, lovely Lady.

Dear children and extended family of Marian Burger, My friendship for Marian only bloomed in the last few years after her husband, John passed away. I have a unique story to share about Marian. I met Nancy at the library and she in turn introduced me to her mother-in-law after her father-in-law passed away and Marian moved to town. It was during this moving process that Marian asked me to come to her home and take everything I could use in my toys for needy project. I felt rather greedy at the time taking so much, but I had homes for all of it. Because she was absolutely so generous, I decided to give her an accounting as to how I dispersed her beautiful household items. I praised her, thanked her, and shared how she truly lived out the great commandment of loving your neighbor as yourself. When she got my letter of thanks, she called me up to share what that truly meant to her. She said she kept that letter near her and referred to it on numerous occasions. Needless to say, that carved a special niche in my heart and I will always remember Marian Burger for her generosity. I am extending to each of you, my sincere sympathy as you walk in the valley of darkness. Marian has seen the great light and is joined with all of those who have gone before her. May you rest in peace. Sincerely meant. Miriam Eick

I am devastated by the death of my good friend, Marian. We met in first grade at Petersburg. Played softball together for the Petersburg team, attended many dances together at Lakeside, in Guttenburg, as well as Petersburg and New Vienna. We, along with Doris Domeyer Burlage, were a formidable trio. And some of the stories we could tell - well, we won't!! We three all married, and kind of drifted apart. However, about 35 years ago, somebody came up with the idea of a Petersburg softball team reunion, and suddenly, we were best friends again. We had lunch every time I came back to Iowa from Mississippi. We three all endured the loss of our husbands, and our friendship persevered. We have shared our joys, our sorrows, our ups and our downs. Marian and I had a common interest in the genealogy of all Petersburg and New Vienna families. And I will miss our many, many phone calls. Friends like Marian don't come along often, and I am so grateful to have been her friend for about eighty years. Marian - you have fought the good fight, and you will be with John now forever. Kay Hermsen Holtz, Ocean Springs, Ms.
