When we were just kids our parents were great friends with Paul and Norma. Had many picnics at their farm or my folks farm. Had so much fun with this family. They are the best.

Renee and Family,
Love and prayers are lifting you up today and in the days ahead. Doug was such a kind and loving man, and I always enjoyed our visits the last few years catching up but always watched Doug's eyes light up as I could see his love and pride for all of you as he talked about each of you. Keep those memories of special times close and on the tough days lean into those memories for comfort. He will be missed so much. I can only imagine Jim meeting him at the pearly gates just waiting to take him to his favorite fishing hole and or ball game telling him "Welcome Home!"
I wish I had the words to make you smile, but even though I don't; Please remember how much he loved you and what a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend he was to so many of us!! God bless you all...

Papa, you truly were the most important man in my life and I will always look up to you. My favorite memory of you was when I get to go to work with you for a day. I got to meet all the people you work with and see all the places you visit. I remember one of your buddies said to me that "your grandpa is the hardest working man in the world" and he was right. You certainly were the hardest working man that I've ever known.
I will always love you and miss you. I can not wait for the day we are reunited.

Reading everyone's tributes, it is evident how much love Doug had for his family, pets and so many others! I didn't get to know my uncle as well as I would have liked, but I do remember his laid back attitude and him wanting to make sure everyone had what they needed.
I remember going to visit their family and everyone flew kites together. It was a very windy day and their cat got to come along!
Like Karl, I remember our dog Toby just loving Doug! Dogs know who likes them and he definitely knew Doug liked him!
As sad and unfortunate as this is, please know of my continued prayers and the consolation of Doug being with his son Jason and his parents.
Eternal rest Grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him! May his soul and all the souls of faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen!
Love you uncle Doug

One of my most favorite memories I have is when we went on a family vacation, to the lake of the Ozarks. Dad took Jason and I to the dock to do some fishing. As we sat there, Patiently waiting like all kids do, me and Jason started dancing and singing at the top of our lungs. Just as dad is telling us to "settle down or we were going to scare the fish for miles", Jason fell through the dock, as Dad was pulling him out of the hole, I screamed excitedly "Jason got a fish". Jason reeled in a real whopper . A dead turtle. I'm pretty sure we decided the next time we just take the boat to go fishing elsewhere.
My dad loved sports, especially baseball.
I will always remember you teaching Jason and I how to hit and how to hit hard. I will always remember you cheering me on in softball and always willing to practice with me in the yard or out on the fields if they weren't already being used. Anything to keep me ready for the next game.
Thank you Dad for always loving me, even when I was being a royal pain in the rump.
Thank you for always being my best friend, helping me through all the hard and horrible parts of life.
Thank you for always encouraging me to push myself, even when I thought I couldn't do it. I am truly blessed to have you as my dad.
Thank you Dad for always being there for my boys. They love and miss you so much dad. I know you will always be watching over them.
I love you Dad and I miss you so much. It hurts.
Love you always and forever,
NiCole

Although I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with my uncle Doug over the years, I do have some great memories of him. One of my favorite memories is when they were visiting us in Dyersville and we had our dog, Toby. Toby loved Doug and it was obvious that Doug was an animal lover. Toby would lay on the ground licking Doug’s toes, and Doug seemed to love every second of it.
It was also obvious how much Doug loved his family, and especially his grandchildren. I think he took being a grandfather seriously and really wanted to make sure those kids had everything they needed.
Even though it’s so hard to say goodbye, we can find happiness in the fact that he can now be with his beloved son Jason, and his parents in heaven.
Love you uncle Doug.

A great memory I have of Doug is the barn dance party we all went to. All nine of us, Doug, Renee', Jason, Nicole, Kyle, Stephanie, Karl, Debbie and myself. We all piled into the 85 Cutlass and had a great time at the party. Everyone danced and had a really good time together. We got back in the Cutlass and laughed all the way home while kids were crawling all over us.
Doug always knew how to have a good time and was a lot of fun to be with.
Love and prayers,
From the other Doug-(Biermann)

My favorite memories of Doug are how he always played with me growing up. He would always play baseball, catch, basketball, pool and help me with my homework. Doug was a very talented, intelligent, quick witted and generous man. He always made sure everyone had what they needed.
I had an art assignment in 7th grade to draw a bird. Doug was watching over my shoulder as I was drawing and started to correct me on my drawing. He said to me, "let me show you how to draw a bird." Well, when he was finished, it was the best looking bird ever. I took the assignment to school and the teacher said, "You didn't draw this bird, did you?" I said no, my brother did because he wanted to show me how to draw it the right way."
Another story is when Doug taught me how to drive his car at 12 years old. We always drove around the "farm block." I learned how to drive fairly well at an early age but I needed a little more instruction on learning how to fill his Camaro with gas from the correct pump. When he was ready to leave to go back to Marshalltown he said I could fill up his car with gas. I drove his car over to the farm pumps, filled it up and told him it was ready to go. He got in his car and it didn't want to run very well. He turned it off, got out and asked me, "which pump did you use?" I said, "as I pointed out, that one." He said, "oh boy, you filled it with diesel fuel." He pushed the car down the hill by our garden, drained the diesel fuel out and didn't even get mad at me! He said, "next time you'll use the other pump," as he smiled at me.
One more story, probably my favorite, is when I wanted a little dog. Mom and Dad took me to a farmer in Petersburg who had a lot of dogs. They said I could choose any dog I wanted. I told Mom I wanted the dog that had an injured leg, was thin and looked very unhealthy. I wanted to help that dog get better. Mom said, "you're not bringing that dog home, it looks like she's going to die." I told her it was the only dog I wanted. Unfortunately, we went home without the dog.
The next day, Doug said to me, "you want that little dog?" I said, "I do!" He said, "get in the car, let's go get her." Mom and Dad were gone, and off we went to Petersburg. Needless to say, when we got home, Mom was not very happy with us. The dog was not only wounded and sickly, she was full of fleas! Mom looked at us and said, "go to Theisen's and get some flea dip." We got the flea dip, bathed her and soon after, she lost all of her hair. We were pretty worried about her but her hair grew back, leg healed and she became healthy and beautiful. Doug was happy because he made sure I got that little dog, Snoopy.
Doug was a hard working man, a good husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend. Renee', Jason, Nicole and Kyle meant the world to him and his grandchildren as well. His love and the memories we have will forever remain in all of our hearts.
Pray for me, brother Doug, as I pray for you, so, together in prayer we will always be - until we meet again. I love you, Doug.
Love,
Deb

When Doug was growing up I always knew he would be successful. He was determined, intelligent, quick-witted, generous, and hard working.
In grade school, I saw his artistic side really coming through. He drew an amazing black and white sketch of “Uncle Sam”, and then a beautiful red rose on a cast on my leg. I will always think of him every time I see a red rose.
Being King Arthur in the high school play seemed so
out of character for him in one way, and yet in another way, it suit him perfectly. It was the first I realized how well he could sing, act, and even wear tights confidently, while being a leader and warrior.
Then came his dedication to work. It began at Theisen’s in Dyersville. There was a snow storm that left the country roads impassable for days. He was ready to leave for work when dad asked him where he was going. Doug said, “To work”. Dad asked him how he was going to get there, and why go on a day when it wouldn’t be that busy. Doug’s reply was, “I’m going to walk, it will be the easiest money I’ll ever make in a day.” And being determined, he did.
Shortly following, Doug brought home Renee. A sweet, loving and caring person he was always so proud of. Renee brought out the best in Doug, and I had never seen him happier. Nicole, Jason and Kyle were created out of that love, and he now had a family of his own to love, and a family who loved him dearly.
His greatest accomplishments in life were complete, and will forever live on in the love of his life, Renee, his children, and his grandchildren.
Rest in peace dear brother, save us a spot in heaven.
Love and prayers,
Diane

A message of sincere sympathy to the entire Tegeler family, It seems your family has truly been laden with enough sorrow by lose of so many family members in such a short period of time. Please know that I do care and have been praying for each one of you. We ask Jesus in the manger to give you comfort, peace, and strength as you walk in the valley of darkness. My heart aches for all of you at this time but try as you may to realize my arms embracing you with heartfelt sympathy. I may know some better than others, but I care that anyone has to lose a loved one during the holiday season. May Doug rest in peace. Sincerely meant Miriam Eick

Dad, so many memories that I truly cannot pick a favorite. From Little League to the Ames Cubs and Slater Nite Hawks, we bonded over baseball and met many life-long friends along the way. To be honest, once people saw through the tough exterior to realize you're a teddy bear, people couldn't help but have a special relationship with you. You never failed to pull through and you always made sure anyone in need was taken care of. I feel very blessed to have had such a strong example of what a friend, husband, and father should be. There is no doubt in my mind that you are still providing us with wisdom and knowledge down here while you spend time with Jason, your parents, and those who have proceeded you. You were a master of handling many things at once and I know you're still doing your best to continue that from where you are. I hold you near and dear to my heart and I know you'll be with all of us until we meet again. Love you Pops.

One of my favorite memories was when kyle and I first started dating and I wanted a 40 dollar love seat for my apartment. And you and kyle got it with your truck and set it up in my apartment for me. I went to goodwill later that day looking for it unbeknownst to me you guys already got it for me and set it up in my apartment. You always made sure everyone was taken care of. You were there for me when kyle and I had our miscarriages. And you were such a great papa to Brynlie, Levi and would be to our 3rd. Brynlie misses you and finding chicken nuggets in your beard lol
I'll miss you, love you. ❤️

I got to know Doug during my high school years at Beckman. While we are distant relatives, it was not until high school that we got to know each other. We were mildly competitive scholastically, but he was always a better student and much smarter than I. He was always willing to help me where I needed instruction. I had not seen him in decades and was just thinking of him this past week, while visiting Dyersville, near the farm where he grew up. So sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family. May he enter the kingdom of heaven quickly and join friends and family who have gone before us to everlasting riches.
