Obituary of William L. Bohlken
MONTICELLO, IOWA
William Leo, “Bill” Bohlken, 78, of Monticello, Iowa passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa, Iowa.
Visitation will be held 3 - 5 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church in Monticello. Funeral Services will begin at 5 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. Pastor Wade Reddy will officiate. A private family burial will be held following services at Wayne Zion Cemetery.
Bill was born October 13, 1943, in Monticello, Iowa the son of Leo and Esther (Dirks) Bohlken. He married Joyce Prull on April 11, 1964 in Galena, Illinois.
He attended Country School and graduated from Monticello High School with the Class of 1962. He played on the football team and spent much of his time helping on the farm. He later married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Prull.
He held multiple positions at Rockwell Collins for many years. After retirement, he spent time working at Sunset Nursery and John Beal Truck Garden Farm.
Bill enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, going out to eat, shopping, and socializing with his friends and family. He cherished his time with children and grandchildren the most.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce, children: Bill (Pam) Bohlken, Anamosa, Brad (Kendy) Bohlken of Monticello, Denise (Jim) Abel of Marion, grandchildren: Kori, Brandon, Chase, Madison, and Jack, siblings: Darlene Hjelle, Janice Bohlken, Linda Fangman, in-laws: Donna Fink, Jerry (Sheila) Prull, Sherry Bohlken, and Bill Catlett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Esther Bohlken, parents-in-law, Ray and Esther Prull, siblings: Dave Bohlken, LouAnn Bohlken, in-laws: Dave Hjelle, Lyle Fangman, Lloyd Fink, Jan Catlett, and Ron Prull.
The family would like to thank the staff at Monticello Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Jones Regional Medical Center, and Unity Point Hospice for their compationate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Wayne Zion Lutheran Church.
