I am so very sad to lose such a vital part of our Ellen Kennedy Living Center community. Your mom was our "choir director" at the living center and just the most upbeat person ever!. She got everyone singing and of course smiling.. She became a personal friend when my husband was dying and she taught me how to do needle work as I sat with him so many nights. I cherish that time with her and our discussions of our spouses. Her condo was beautiful and she so generously let anyone come in and view it especially perspective tenants. Whether our entertainers knew it or not your mom always got the group singing "Show Me the Way to Go Home" as our last song. Well her most loving Lord and Savior has shown His faithful servant the way to go home. I am deeply sorry for your loss and I thank you all for the privilege of having her live with us. I am out of town for the services and am sad to miss it.

Growing up in Dyersville, our family had the pleasure of living behind Mary Ellen, Don and family when they lived on 9th Avenue, SE. I still think of her often and am so saddened to hear of her passing. She was a special lady and I never saw her unhappy. She was always so positive. RIP Mary Ellen and to family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss.

What a treasure it was to know this lady? She was beautiful inside and out and what an outstanding attitude she had, woke up with a smile every morning and just happy to be alive she told me. If we could only all live life like she did. I know it is hard to loose a loved one but celebrate the beautiful life she lived and she will always be with you in your heart and memories.

Lakeman Family -
I am deeply saddened to hear of Mary Ellen's death. She was the epitome of warmth, hospitality and gracious welcome. Whenever I spent time with her, she enlivened my spirit. Her zest for life was contagious: she had the ability to bring happiness and hope to everyone and everything she touched. Mary Ellen dearly loved all of you---she was so proud of you, what you have accomplished and the ways that you have brought meaning and energy to the people and the world around you. She was quick to whip up a batch of cookies or a fruit pie to insure that no one left her home hungry! She was inquisitive...wanting to know how I was, how our family was doing, and to learn of our recent adventures.
A woman of grace and faith...she exuded a sense of peace and contentment and truly lived life to the full.
God bless each of you as you carry her spirit with you.
