George A. Pins, 82, of Dyersville died Monday, April 5, 2010, at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2010, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 4:00 p.m., a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m., and an American Legion Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friends may continue to call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetey where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. George was born Dec. 26, 1927, in Worthington, Iowa the son of John and Veronica (Ament) Pins. He served in the US Army from 1951 - 1953 during the Korean War. Upon his return, George worked for Three Rivers FS for 38 years until retiring in 1992. He was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Anglin-Dunne on Feb. 10, 1962, at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Dubuque. George and Shirley made their home in Dyersville where he was an original Lay Board Member of St. Francis Xavier Parish. Traveling and woodworking were favorite pastimes and he had an enthusiasm for airplanes. He was a member of both the Knights of Columbus Council 1734 and American Legion Post 137 for over 50 years. Surviving George are his wife, Shirley, 5 children: Kevin (Sue) Dunne of Luling, LA, Karen (Steve) Zimmerman of Verona, WI, Steve Dunne of Dyersville, Gregory (Jenee) Pins of Fredericksburg, VA and Patricia (Gary) Brunet of Barrington, IL; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, Cy (Doris) Pins of Dyersville; 3 sisters-in-law: Ethel Pins of Earlville, IA, Eldora Pins of Manchester, IA and Eileen Pins of Dyersville, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents, 8 brothers: Vince (Clara), Bert (Esther) , Jim, Mark (Lorraine), Jerry, Paul, Tony (Lois) and Louis Pins; 4 sisters: Mary (Vince) Goedken, Sr. Mary Ernest Pins, OSF, Clara Pins and Theresa Pins. Memorials are preferred. We the family would like to thank the staff at Oak Crest Manor and finally Hospice of Dubuque for their compassionate support and care.
