Wilfred G. "Butch" Vaske, 85, of Dyersville, Iowa died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, Iowa. Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where a parish scripture service will be held at 2:00 p.m. and an American Legion Service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2010, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Phil Kruse. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Butch was born on April 25, 1924, in Luxemburg, Iowa, the son of Frank and Katherine (Maiers) Vaske. Butch served in the Army from 1944 - 1946 in Central European Theatre during WWII. When he returned he married Anna Mae Conrad on November 10, 1947, in Dyersville, Iowa. Butch and Anna Mae began farming near Luxemburg and moved to Dyersville where he held several positions with various employers and finally retired from Dyersville Implement. After retiring, Butch made a career of volunteering as well as being the groundskeeper for the Field of Dreams. His grandchildren and woodworking were his favorite pastimes, and he was a member of the Dyersville American Legion Post 137. Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae, 5 children: Daniel (Donna) Vaske of Worthington, IA, Darlene (Ronald) Kluesner of Luxemburg, IA, Judy Farrar, of Aurora, CO, Susie (Darrell) Kutsch of Farley, IA and Sandy (Ken) Feldmann of Swisher, IA; 11 grandchildren: Tim (Jenny) Vaske, Tammy Morrison, Terry (friend Shelly) Vaske, Tony (Kristi) Vaske, Tom (Laura) Vaske, Ken Kluesner, Waylon (fiance Lynne) Jaeger, Jessika (friend T.J.) Jaeger, Jon Kutsch, Colton and Caitlin Feldmann; 11 great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Helen Vaske of Edgewood, IA and Alma Vaske of Dyersville, and a brother-in-law: Leo Meyer of Dyersville, IA He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Carter Farrar, 5 brothers: Cletus, Leander (Agnes), Paul, and John and Arthur, both in infancy, 3 sisters: Marie (Clem) Wulfekuhle, Florence (Ed) Hermsen and Virginia (Roland) Berns; Sisters-and-brothers-in-law: Louis (Margie) Conrad, Merlin (Betty) Conrad, Alfred (Idell) Conrad, Robert (Eileen) Conrad, and Virginia Meyer.
