Charles "Chuck" E. Engler, 82, of Worthington died Saturday, Apr. 10, 2010, at his residence. Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, Apr. 12, 2010, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 4:00 p.m. and an American Legion Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Apr. 13, 2010, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington with burial in the church cemetery. Presiding will be Rev. Robert Gross with Deacon Fred Pins assisting. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Chuck was born October 21, 1927, in Dyersville the son of Lavern J. and Ida M. (Burlage) Engler. He served in the US Army for two years at Okinawa and Guam just after WWII. He married Ione T. Oberfoell on October 23, 1950, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Epworth, IA. He worked for Adams Co. in Dubuque as a machinist for 30 years and was a driver for the Dubuque Packing Co. He was a member of the Dyersville Golf and Country Club and loved to play cards, especially euchre and solo. Chuck mostly enjoyed a good conversation or argument. He was a member of the Dyersville American Legion Post 137. Surviving are 9 children: Connie (Terry) Bethel of Breese, IL, Tom (Mavis) Engler of Worthington, IA, Lynne Engler of Worthington, IA, Bill (Judy) Engler of Dyersville, IA, Mary (Chuck) Freese of Marion, IA, Julie (Marc) Kuker of Readlyn, IA, Sue (Mike) Dreismeier, Ann Engler, Steve (Sarah) Engler, all of Cedar Rapids, IA; and; 16 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; 4 sisters-in-law, Jeri (Jim) Pennekamp of Dyersville, Eileen (Bill) Domas of Montclair, CA, Verna (Dorrance) McDermott and Helen (Pat) McDermott, both of Epworth, IA; 2 brothers-in-law: Leo "Mike" Oberfoell of Liberty, MO and Francis "Ducky" (Jean) Oberfoell of Epworth, IA, and Jim (Donna) Brady of DeWitt, IA Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ione in 1993, his parents-in-law, LeRoy and Marie Oberfoell, a brother, James Engler in 1996, 2 sisters-in-law, Patti Brady and Phyllis Oberfoell, and a brother-in-law, Milton "Pinky" Oberfoell.
