Mom was her own person.
She did what she wanted to do, regardless of what anyone thought. Sometimes, that was a good idea and, sometimes, that was not so good. She cared about people in her life but wasn’t always able to express that affection as much as she might have liked. Instead, she seemed to express herself best through her photography.
When she took pictures, her affection for people, for animals, for her family, for the wonder of the world came through her art. She traveled the globe, often alone, exploring other places and other cultures and having experiences most of us only dream of. She brought those images and experiences home and shared them with us through slideshows, magazines and books, and personal stories.
Nothing mattered to her as much as getting that perfect picture.
From growing up on a small farm in Iowa, my mother became a prize-winning photographer whose work has touched the lives of many people. Not everyone dares to live their life like she did. Perhaps, we can all benefit to take a page from her book and, on occasion, choose to be our own persons regardless of the consequences.
I believe I first learned to see the beauty of the world through her eyes.
No, not all moms were like our mom. I miss her very much.

Dear Denise, Joe, Jamie and families,
I have many fond memories of Aunt Julie from growing up - particularly all of the Euchre games at Grandma's house, holidays where she would find taking pictures more important than eating, and the interesting stories of her travels. I last saw Aunt Julie early in the fall of 2019. Although even at that time she was having a harder time remembering people, she took great interest in looking at some photo books that I brought - and I chalk up my interest in photography at least in part due to her lifelong enthusiasm for getting great photos.
Due to the inclement weather expected Tuesday evening as well as a medical issue in our family we unfortunately won't be able to make it to the service this week even though I really would have liked to.
Sincerest condolences
Tony, Merri, Jesse, and Alex Meyers.

Dear family of Julie,
Extending my sincere sympathy to each one of you upon the death of your mom. Julie was truly an interesting and talented woman. On many occasions at the James Kennedy Public Library, I would check out books and magazines to her. Naturally we would engage in conversations about her latest endeavor. The day I really got to know Julie was the day she was my seat-partner on a bus trip. I may have physically been on the bus, but Julie had me on a mental trip around the world. She always intrigued me with her stories and geography. I know we will miss her smiling face at the James Kennedy Public Library. You are in my prayers as you walk in the valley of darkness. May she rest in peace. Sincerely meant Miriam Eick

Julia is my first cousin....my dad, Florian Timmer and her mom, Germaine, were siblings. I have many fond memories of visiting Julia and her parents during my growing up years. Julia was always fun and kind to me even though I was a younger cousin and a tag along with my older girl cousins!
I enjoyed seeing her photography and hearing of her travel adventures. Such a talented and adventurous lady.
My sympathy to all of the Habel children. Know that your mom was a treasured cousin of mine.
