We are so grateful that we were able to visit with Doris this summer. Nick would often talk about his grandma so fondly. She was truly special. Join in honoring their life - plant a memorial tree

Tom, my sister Joan and her husband, David Elenz, just told me that Doris has passed away. Very sad to hear that. Your mom was always a delight to be around. I remember well when we used to hang out at your house in our high school days and Doris would let us stay up late to watch Johnny Carson. In later years, when I was back home to visit, I would walk down your way and say hello to your mom.
Harry and Starla have passed away, too, sad to say. I think a lot about growing up in Dyersville and all those great parents from our neighborhoods. We were lucky to be raised there, with a freedom that is unusual for today's children, I think.
I would love to be in Dyersville for the wake and funeral, but I'm currently in China, with a flight out scheduled in the middle of September. If you'd like to contact me, here's my email address: jgschuster@protonmail.com.

Dear Tom and Extended Family,
Your mother, grandmother and friend to many is a one-a-kind woman. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. I know her to have a welcoming personality, and once you met her, you never forgot her. She was such a delight to help at the library, or better yet, when she would come to the garage with a carload of goodies, we would engage in a kind, loving, and generous conversation. Please know, as you walk in the valley of darkness that you have our prayers and admiration. We will hang on tightly to the memories Doris created in our lives and find comfort in knowing she no longer feels the pangs of disease and worries of the world. It is an honor to know your dear mother. I will not forget her. Sincerely meant,
L
